Yacht RodŽ is a High Performance Spring
Loaded Mechanical Boom Vang that provides boom support as
well as being an excellent vang for performance cruising
and racing. It is available in three sizes and
incorporates a built in cable system that provides a 2:1
mechanical advantage, thus doubling the effect of the block &
tackle which attaches to the vang.
The Yacht Rod is manufactured from hard
anodized aluminum and polished stainless steel. The tubing
is white coated anodized 6061-T6 aluminum and electro polished 316
stainless steel. It incorporates precision machined 6061-76
aluminum clevis ends, sheaves and Nylatron bearings. The
internal spring - rated for over 1 million compressions- is
precipitation hardened stainless steel and incorporates a fast-pin
adjustment.
Check out these
benefits:

Eliminates the need for
a boom topping lift.
-
Supports the boom in
light air, when reefing and lowering the mainsail.
-
Faster than hydraulics
and no messy hydraulic leaks.
-
No gas spring to loose
its charge.
-
More efficient than
conventional tackles.
The Yacht Rod, attachment
fittings and tackle may be purchased separately or in complete
packages as shown in the tables below.
Important installation
information is shown at the bottom of this page.
Caution: Yacht
Rod cannot be installed on rotating booms (booms with
swivel gooseneck mast attachment).
Over-sheeting or leaning
heavily on the aft end of the boom can bend the boom or the Yacht
Rod. The main halyard shackle can be snapped to the outboard
boom end, in port, to prevent damage to the Yacht Rod.
